SC Orders UP Govt To Fund Education Of Muslim Student Slapped By Teacher

In the Muzaffarnagar student slapping case, the Supreme Court directss that the UP government has the primary responsibility for paying tuition fees, cost of uniforms, books, and transport charges of the child till he completes his school education.

In Muzaffarnagar, a primary school teacher, Tripti Tyagi, at Neha Public School, punished an 8-year-old Muslim boy by asking other students to slap him. The incident drew criticism from all sections of society, demanding action against the school teacher.

After the incident was reported by the student, an FIR was delayed by the police, and allegations regarding communal hatred were also omitted. Police did not file an FIR against the primary school teacher and later registered amid mounting pressure after the video of the teacher and students slapping the 8-year-old boy went viral.

The Supreme Court had earlier shown dissatisfaction with how the Uttar Pradesh Police dealt with the school student slapping case. While criticising the govt and administration, Supreme Court earlier said, “Uttar Pradesh Govt Failed To Act In Manner Expected After Incident”.

While pulling the Yogi Adityanath government, the Supreme Court had also said that such cases should shake conscience.

In the same case, Alt News co-founder and journalist Muhammad Zubair was booked for disclosing the identity of the UP Muslim boy who was assaulted in the classroom. A complaint was filed by Vishnu Dutt alleging that Mr Zubair disclosed the identity of the boy by sharing the video of the incident on social media.
