Timeline, an emerging Indian media house, conducted a short-term internship programme in collaboration with the Economics Department and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Farook College, Kerala. The programme concluded on Thursday with an award ceremony held at the Farook College campus in Kozhikode.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. KA Aysha Swapna, the first female principal of the autonomous institute. In her inaugural address, Dr. Ayesha applauded the efforts of the interns, who produced news stories to the recently-held assembly elections based on raw data provided to them by the Timeline team.
She congratulated the students and teachers for their participation in the internship programme, and expressed her gratitude towards Timeline for the collaboration, which will now be streamlined into a permanent partnership between Farook College and the media house. Dr. Ayesha thanked the Timeline management for “thinking of Farook College and accommodating the students” in the internship programme.
While discussing the implications of this internship programme, Anas Mundo, Timeline’s Director in charge of internship programme, emphasized the importance of applying knowledge acquired through training in real life. He assured that Timeline’s doors will be open always for the career and personality development of each participant.
Echoing Mr Anas’ observations, Dr. A T Abdul Jabbar, a faculty in the college and Calicut University Senate member, said that “Practical experience and industry linkages are essential for education. Budget analysis or election results analysis can help the students to understand the practical implications of the theoretical aspects they learn in classrooms”.
Dr. Mohammed Kasim from the Economics Department delivered a welcome speech, noting that the short-term internship program provided a new opportunity for students to experience the result analysis of elections by the media. He observed that students carried out the analysis with a professional touch.
Shihabudeen Kunju S, Managing Editor of Timeline, shared feedback on the news stories prepared by the participants during the internship programme, and mentioned that all 17 participants showed extraordinary ability to write news stories, and their published stories on timelinedaily.com prove this fact.
Mr. Shihabudheen MT, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, expressed sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire Timeline team for providing students with an opportunity. He also shared his happiness about the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that Timeline and the Department are going to sign as he delivered the vote of gratitude. Mr. Shihabudheen expressed joy in seeing students showcase their skills and commitment to quality work.
IIC”s Innovation Activity Coordinator Dr Shafeeq T was present at the ceremony. “The aims and objectives of the internship programme matches the purpose of IIC and this event will mark a new partnership with the Council and Timeline,” Dr Shafeeq said.
Ahmmed Swalih A, an internship participant said the short-term programme with Timeline was a wonderful experience which helped us to improve our analytical and writing skills. “It also gave us an opportunity to know more about the works, efforts and processes which are happening in the background of an online news portal,” he added.
“You may feel tough until you put in an effort, but if you are willing to put the effort you will find success in your endeavours – this was the lesson I learned from the programme,” said Fathima Sana while adding that 17 participants from Farook College proved her point through the internship programme.
Timeline organized the internship project “Whom They Voted For: Celebrating The National Festival” in November and December of this year, aiming to help young minds understand the electoral process in the country. As part of the internship, participants conducted research and studied assembly constituencies in the states of Rajasthan and Telangana. The outcomes of this process were published as news stories on timelinedaily.com.
Timeline, primarily an English news portal (timelinedaily.com) right now, publishes trending and breaking news from around the world. It aims to assist readers in making informed decisions through the pursuit of credible journalism.
