
Will NMC Consider 3,500 New Seats For NEET PG Counselling?
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has cleared the way for an additional 10,650 new MBBS seats and 41 new medical colleges in Indian to be considered for the academic year 2025-26, as per the report published by NDTV. The addition of the new seats raises the total number of seats from 1,17,750 to 1,37,600 in 2025-26.
Notably, NMC has also received proposals to add new 3,500 seats and renewed seats for postgraduate courses, totaling the PG seats this year to 67,000, reported by PTI. If NMC accepts the proposal, the total number of undergraduate and postgraduate seats this year will amount to nearly 15,000. As per the reports, the delay in the NEET PG counselling was seen due to the lack of clarity on the seat matrix of PG medical colleges.

NEET PG 2025: Proposed new seats
As per the reports, 150 additional seats have been approved in West Bengal for the A.Y. 2025-26 and 100 new seats in Uttar Pradesh. 50 new seats are added in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, respectively. Jammu and Kashmir will add 50 new seats, Madhya Pradesh to add 50, and Jharkhand will add 100, and more seats have been approved across the country.
NEET PG counselling
NMC has begun round 1 NEET PG counselling on October 18, 2025, and the counselling schedule is expected to be released soon.
Also, the process of NEET UG counselling is currently underway, and the results were announced on October 18 as per the official schedule, after which the reporting for college admission started.
The increase in UG and PG medical seats will help in resolving multiple issues, ranging from a larger number of doctors, reduced pressure from the existing doctors, and improved medical services in already under-pressure hospital setups.
