Akshay Yadav, the son of Samajwadi Party (SP) secretary general Ram Gopal Yadav of Uttar Pradesh and cousin of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, is one among the 16 candidates of SP for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. 

Akshay Yadav will be fielded as the candidate from the Firozabad constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Akshay was fielded against BJP’s Dr Chandra Sen Jadon as well as his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav. In the triangular contest, Dr. Chandra Sen won the election. Akshay Yadav was defeated by a narrow margin. 

BJP candidate received 4,95,819 votes meanwhile, Akshay got 4,67,038 votes. Akshay’s uncle Shivpal received 91,869 votes. If Shivpal had not contested the election, SP would have claimed the seat in Firozabad.

Akshay who hails from the Saifai family, won the 2014 Lok Sabha election. He by contesting the election from Firozabad emerged victorious and became one of the five MLAs of the Samajwadi Party of Uttar Pradesh. He won the election with 5,34,583 votes. 

The Firozabad constituency consists of five assembly seats in Lok Sabha. It includes, Shikohabad, Jasrana, Sirsaganj, Tundla, Firozabad Sadar. After being nominated as the candidate for the election, Akshay said that he has full confidence in his victory as Akhilesh Yadav has dedicated his work for Firozabad and thus believes in the public to support him.

On Tuesday, January 30, the Samajwadi Party made a surprising move by declaring its candidates for 16 Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seats. The Samajwadi Party announced the list of candidates amid seat-sharing talks with Congress.
