Amit Deshmukh Vs Archana Patil Chakurkar: Fight Is Between Kin Of Ex-Congress Starworts In Latur City

Laturn city assembly constituency in Maharashtra is going to witness a high-voltage electoral battle between the Congress and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates.. One of the high-profile candidates vying in the state is Archana Patil Chakurkar, the daughter-in-law of veteran Congress leader and former home minister Shivajirao Patil Chakurkar. Archana is contesting against the Congress candidate and sitting MLA Amit Deshmukh.

A stronghold of the grand old party, Amit Deshmukh has been representing Latur City since 2009. He was also a medical education minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray. However, a rival candidate from the Congress household on a BJP ticket has made the seat unpredictable for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for November 20.

When Archana decided to join the BJP before the recent Lok Sabha elections, her father-in-law Chakurkar had publicly distanced himself from her decision, discarding it as her own move. After joining the BJP, the former Congress leader had noted that the saffron party was a better platform to work for her.

Many therefore suspect the possibility of the history being repeated.

Being a prominent member of the Lingayat community, Archana is analysed to have the potential to sway voters’ choice in the Latur city constituency. She has expressed her confidence in capturing the seat, saying that she would highlight developments and would be available in the constituency. Amit Deshmukh, who belongs to the Maratha community and has represented the Latur (city) in the last three terms, is also also considered as indomitable

However, the Congress candidate Amit Deshmukh, also from a family of political legacy—the son of former chief minister and Latur strongman Vilasrao Deshmukh—is considered to be a Himalayan challenger, making the fight in Latur city between the kin of former Congress stalwarts.
