Arun Sao, BJP Chief Wins Lormi Constituency By Over 75070 Votes

Amid, BJP’s unpredictable win in the state of Chhattisgarh, BJP chief Arun Sao defeated Congress leader Thaneshwar Sahu from Lormi seat by 45891 votes. As per the current trend, BJP is leading in 54 seats and Congress in 35. The results are coming out in contrast to the exit polls which predicted a clear sweep of all seats for Congress. Though, the initial trends in the beginning favoured Congress, the trends took a swift turn.

Arun Sao is an OBC face for the chief ministerial post and he also holds a strong influence among OBC communities. Sao started his political career as a volunteer for Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP party. As first-time Parliament member from Bilaspur, he was named the BJP state unit head in last November.

In 2019, after defeating Congress candidate Panna Lal Sahu by a margin over 160,000 votes, Arun Sao was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha Assembly. From 2013 to 2018, he served as the cabinet minister for Forest and Environment. In 2010, he was elected as a member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative assembly from Lormi constituency.

In the early hours of counting, Arun Sao exuded confidence in the party forming government with a complete majority in the state which has come true as the counting almost reaches to its end. “The people of Chhattisgarh are going to give their blessings to the BJP. After going all around the state, we formed a belief and on that basis, I can say that the BJP is going to form its government with a complete majority” Arun Sao said.

The BJP has won three successive polls in the state till 2018 and faced a severe loss in 2018. But now, BJP has come back to retain its power in the state of Chhattisgarh.
