Baba Ziauddin Siddique, former Congress minister and MLA from Maharashtra, who resigned from the Indian National Congress (INC), two days ago joined Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The party, which was recognised by the Election Commission as original NCP after the nephew split the party, is part of Maharashtra’s ruling alliance led by Ekanth Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
Baba Siddique has posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) the resignation from the primary membership of the congress party earlier. “Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect,” the former Congress leader wrote.
Talking about his time in Congress, the former Congress minister said that he joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it was a significant journey lasting 48 years, noting his long lasting association with the grand old party.
“There’s a lot I would have liked to express but as they say some things are better left unsaid. I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey,” Baba Siddique further penned.
As an important minority leader in the Bandra area of the coaster suburb of Mumbai, Baba Siddique was a three-time MLA from the Bandra West constituency in 1999, 2004 and 2009 consecutively. He has also served as the Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies during the 2004–2008 tenure. Besides, he has played important role such as the Municipal Corporator for two consecutive terms.
