In Jammu Kashmir’s Billawar constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Satish Kumar Sharma won the seat. He defeated Indian National Congress’ Manohar Lal Sharma with the margin of 21,368 votes. As per the Election Commission of India, the voter turn-out of Billawar in this year was 72.01 percentage.
Billawar assembly constituency is situated in the Kathua district of Jammu Kashmir. Since its formation, either Jammu and Kashmir National Conference or Indian National Congress held the seat, with an exception in 2002, when an Independent won the seat. However, since 2014, the seat was under the clasp of BJP.
The key players of the constituency were BJP’s Satish Kumar Sharma, INC’s Manohar Lal Sharma, and BSP’s Sanjay Kumar.
Jammu and Kashmir have the total assembly strength of 119 seats, but only 90 go to the polls. 24 seats are reserved for Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and five members are nominated by the Lieutenant-Governor.
