Lumbaram Choudhary, the BJP candidate from Jalore Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan is a new face who was nominated by the party dropping the three-time sitting MP Devji Patel. A resident of Vadeli village in Sirohi district, Lumbaram Choudhary has served as the BJP’s District president as well as the Panchayath committee president. Currently a member of District Panjayath, he has worked as an LIC agent and farmer. The decision to cancel the ticket of the incumbent MP and the nomination of Mr Chaudhary has surprised many.
The Jalore constituency has been representing the saffron party for the past four years. In 2009, the party gave the youth leader Mr Devji M Patel a ticket from the constituency and he has since then represented the seat for the third consecutive term. During the 2019 general elections, Devji M Patel won the seat with more than two and a half lakh majority.
He has been an active party worker for years and has sought a ticket for the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections. He was one of the farmers sent to Israel during the Vasundhara Raje-led government in Rajasthan to help the Israel farmers with farming methods. After he was sent to Israel by the BJP government, he started to be more engaged in politics. He is also one of the active campaigners for the farmers” cause.
There were reportedly more leaders vying for the nomination from the constituency, including the sitting MP Devji Patel. The BJP has however trusted Lumbaram Choudhary for the seat. After the party announced Chaudhary’s name, he expressed gratitude saying that the BJP has encouraged workers like him with its Lok Sabha ticket. He also said that providing water would be one of his top priorities if won the seat in the upcoming election.
