Shiv Sena (UBT – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday responded to the BJP’s ‘New Age Ravan’’ tweet, a frontal attack on Congress and its senior national leader Rahul Gandhi. According to Mr Raut, the poster directly denotes the BJP’s fear to compete with Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to ANI, Mr Raut expressed that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah has already started fearing Mr Gandhi and this ensures BJP’s defeat in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The tweet by BJP, represented MP Rahul Gandhi as the Hindu mythological figure Ravana, a multi-headed ‘rakshasa’ king of the island Lanka and the chief antagonist in the epic Ramayana.

It was released on the BJP’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday in the format of a movie poster, and positioned Mr Gandhi as the one who triggered a war of words between the two rival parties – BJP and Congress. ‘Ravan: A Congress Party Production’, reads the flyer.

BJP on captioning the poster said that the new age of Ravan (denoting Mr Gandhi) has come. ‘’He [Rahul Gandhi] is Evil. Anti Dharma. Anti Ram’’. The ruling political party through the flyer also accused the Congress MP as his aim is to ‘’destroy Bharat’’.

MP Sanjay Raut added that the battle between Ram and Ravan was fought in India and ‘’Ravan is a perversion that resides within BJP the most’’.

BJP’s social media post depicts Rahul Gandhi as the multiple-headed Ravan, and the slogan on it says, ‘Bharat Khatre Mein Hai,’ which means ‘India is in danger.’ Designed as a motion picture poster, it also reads, ‘Ravan, a Congress party production, directed by George Soros,’ hinting at the allegation of the ruling party that the millionaire-philanthropist runs an agenda against India.

The poster that contains a morphed image of Rahul Gandhi can be considered as segment of intensified fight between the two parties on the wake of an election season. Congress earlier shared posters calling Mr Modi the ‘’biggest liar’’, to which BJP hit back with Mr Gandhi as ‘’Ravan’’.
