BJP Fields Dr Pranat Tudu Against Padma Shri Kalipada Soren In Jhargram Constituency

The BJP candidate Pranat Tudu is contesting the Lok Sabha election 2024 from the Jhargram constituency against the Padma Shri recipient writer Kalipada Soren. The Jhargaram Lok Sabha constituency will go for election on May 25, 2024, in phase 6. In this phase, a total 8 constituencies will see elections in West Bengal: Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur

The 46-year-old BJP candidate Pranat Tudu, is a doctor by profession, however, he has resigned from the hospital to contest the election this year. Tudu is new to politics but earlier he has remained involved in social work in the health sector through tribal doctors and student organizations. Dr Tudu is very well acquiented with the local people of the constituency through his profession. Pranat Tudu received his MBBS degree from Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. His father late Jadunath Tudu was a poet and writer of the Santhali language.

Dr Pranat Tudu teaches kids of Santhali families from lower middle class in off times. Reportedly, in corona lockdown, Dr Tudu sold his wife”s jewellery to financially help migrant workers of Jhargram.

Jhargaram Lok Sabha constituency consist of 7 assembly regions including – Nayagram, Gopiballavpur, Jhargram, Garhbeta, Salboni, Binpur and Bandwan. In the last assembly elections all the assembly seats were won by the TMC candidates. Prior to 2014, the constituency was a stronghold of Communist Party of India, however later TMC and BJP won the seat in the respective elections.

Jhargaram Lok Sabha constituency is a Schedule Tribe reserve seat. In 2019, BJP candidate Kunar Hembram won the Lok Sabha elections in Jhargram constituency with 626,584 votes (44.56%) and TMC candidate Birbaha Soren secured 43.72% of the total voter turnout.

The Jhargaram Lok Sabha constituency comprise of Paschim Medinipur district and part of Purulia district. The literacy rate of the Jhargram is 67.04%. The SC, ST and Muslim population of the constituency is 19.15%, 15.42% and 10.1% respectively

The Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 will be announced on June 4, 2024.
