Amarsing Tisso Once Again Stamped BJP in Diphu Of Assam

The Diphu constituency of Assam has witnessed the victory of the BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso in this Lok Sabha election pushing his rival Joyram Engleng behind with a margin of 2,10,601 votes.

Amarsing Tisso secured 3,34,620 votes. As this constituency had a competitive electoral battle in the past elections between the major parties BJP and Congress, this election was a bit different since it was a political game between Amarsing Tisso and the independent candidate J.I.Karthar, who was the runner-up with 1,87,017 votes. This election has reflected that the grip of the congress in the constituency has been loosened.

The 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the constituency showcased the changing political dynamics and competitive nature of the electoral dynamics. In 2014, Congress Biren Singh Engti secured the seat, continuing a historical trend of Congress representation in the region. However, the 2019 elections marked a significant shift with BJP Horen Singh Bey capturing the seat, illustrating the party’s growing influence and the electorates’ shifting preferences in the Autonomous District.

Amarsing Tisso holds a significant position as an Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), with responsibilities over key departments such as agriculture, land revenue and land reform, and excise. His role involves steering the development and regulatory measures in these sectors. He was also an elected Member of the Autonomous Council of the Singhason Constituency. He officially entered the electoral fray on April 2, 2024, by filing his nomination.

Diphu the autonomous district Lok Sabha constituency represents a unique electoral division encompassing three autonomous districts Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, and West Karbi Anglong, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
