Kerala: In a decisive electoral outcome that reaffirmed the Indian National Congress’s hold over the Chalakudy Assembly constituency, sitting MLA Saneeshkumar Joseph registered a strong victory in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. The result, declared after the completion of all 16 rounds of counting, confirmed his win over Kerala Congress (M) candidate Adv. Biju S Chirayath by a significant margin of 23,156 votes.
The counting process in constituency number 72 remained steady and transparent throughout the day, with early trends quickly establishing a clear advantage for Saneeshkumar Joseph. From the initial rounds itself, the Congress candidate maintained a consistent lead, gradually widening the gap as counting progressed, leaving little room for a late reversal.

Saneeshkumar Joseph, who is the sitting MLA of Chalakudy representing the Indian National Congress, entered the contest with strong grassroots support and established constituency presence. His previous tenure and sustained engagement with local development issues played a key role in consolidating voter confidence, which was reflected in the final outcome.
On the other hand, Adv. Biju S Chirayath, representing Kerala Congress (M), is a legal professional and party leader known for his active involvement in regional political affairs. Despite a focused campaign and strong organisational backing from his party, he was unable to match the momentum built by the incumbent MLA during the counting process.

Chalakudy, a politically significant constituency, has often witnessed competitive electoral battles, but the 2026 verdict leaned clearly in favour of continuity, with voters endorsing the leadership of the sitting representative. The margin of 23,156 votes is being viewed as a strong mandate, indicating widespread approval of the incumbent’s performance and campaign message.
Throughout the counting process, party workers and observers closely monitored each round as results were updated. However, by the midway stage, it became evident that Saneeshkumar Joseph had established an unassailable lead. The final declaration after 16/16 rounds only confirmed what had already become clear in the earlier phases of counting.
Election officials confirmed that the entire process was conducted smoothly, with strict adherence to procedural guidelines and no major irregularities reported. The final result was formally announced after verification of all counting rounds.
Political observers note that Chalakudy’s result reflects a broader pattern of voter consolidation in favour of the Indian National Congress in certain key constituencies, where incumbent performance and local governance issues played a decisive role. The strong margin also highlights the effectiveness of sustained constituency-level engagement by the winning candidate.
With this victory, Saneeshkumar Joseph strengthens his position as the representative of Chalakudy and reinforces the Indian National Congress’s presence in the constituency. The result is expected to influence political discussions in the region, particularly in assessing voter priorities and future electoral strategies.
