As Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency is set to go to the polling booth on May 25 in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, Congress”s  MP Deepender Singh Hooda is seeking his fourth term from Rohtak. He is currently the Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana. Voters in Haryana”s all ten constituencies will cast their votes on May 25.

Notably, the Hooda family has a long and strong legacy in the constituency. During the first Lok Sabha election of independent India in 1952, Deepender Singh”s grandfather Ranbir Singh Hooda, one of the freedom fighters, won the seat on the Congress ticket. In 1991, Ranbir Singh”s son Bhupinder Singh Hooda began his Lok Sabha journey from the seat and won consecutively the 1996, 1998, and 2004 general elections. He has also served as the Chief Minister of Haryana between 2005 and 2014.

In 2005, Bhupinder Singh Hooda”s son Deepender Singh Hooda entered the Lok Sabha as the youngest MP and continued till 2019. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP”s Arvind Kumar Sharma won the seat with a 7503 votes majority, defeating the incumbent Deepender Singh Hooda. As the constituency is going to the polling booth in the fifth phase, the BJP has been trying to retain the seat by fielding the sitting MP Arvind Kumar Sharma. After Deepender Singh Hooda”s defeat in 2019, he became a Rajya Sabha MP from the state of Haryana in 2020. With strong dynamics of dynastic politics, the Hoonda family members enjoys a an upper hand in the state politics.

The 46-year-old Deepender Singh Gooda is a postgraduate and he has Rs 69 crore assets as per his last affidavit before the Election Commission. He has also served as a whip of the Indian National Congress in Parliament. His writing frequently appears in major news outlets including Indian Express on economy and foreign affairs.

As a fourth-generation public servant in the Hooda family, his renomination from the constituency Deepender Singh represented three times, test the Rajya Sabha MP”s mettle for his re-election.
