Pune Rural Police on Monday seized Rs 5 crore in cash during a Nakabandi at the Khed Shivapur toll booth. The seizure of the money in the election-bound state has raised concerns, and the investigation is going on in the presence of officials from both the Election Commission and Income Tax Department at Rajgad police station. Maharashtra is going to the polls on November 20 to elect 288 assembly members amid stiff political competition; the electoral exercise marks the first Assembly polls after the split of NCP and Shiv Sena, and the BJP and Congress appears to be in renewed vigour.
The cash was seized from a car late evening and was handed over to the Income Tax Department officials for further investigation, news agency ANI reported, quoting Pankaj Deshmukh, Pune Rural SP. Upon receiving information, the officials reportedly stopped a suspicious car, finding the huge amount in cash.
