After announcing his decision to quit the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Prashant Kanojia, a journalist and one of the staunch critics of the Prime Minister Modi-led BJP government today shared a tweet stating that he cannot be merely a spectator “watching the country going to crooks for another term.” The journalist who introduces himself as a volunteer against hate wrote that his decision to quit Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is purely in the interest of the nation. He was serving as the national campaign in charge of the RLD party.

Announcing his decision to leave the party, Prashant Kanojia in an earlier post wrote, “For 700 martyred farmers For the farmers of Lakhimpur Kheri For the daughter of Hathras for women wrestlers for caste census For democracy to save the constitution I resign from RLD party. Supporting the BJP which is trying to break the country and change the constitution means betraying the country. Hail Bhim Hail Farmer.”

RLD which was part of the INDIA bloc, recently joined the BJP-led NDA alliance ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“I can’t be merely a spectator watching my beloved country going to crooks for another term. Hate enablers against Muslims-Dalit-Adivasi and OBC should be defeated,” Mr Kanojia wrote referring to the mounting hate crimes against the Minorities, Dalit-Adivasis and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Vowing to protect the constitution, Mr Kanojia further said that it is “our holy book and we must die to protect it.”

“I can”t distract myself from the path of Dr Ambedkar-Phule-Shahu-Birsa-Chotu Ram-Chaudhary Charan Singh and Kanshiram. Jai Bhim,” Prashant Kanojia wrote in his post on X (formerly Twitter).

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav recently slammed its former ally RLD”s decision saying that it cheated the people, alleging that the RLD was given packages to switch the alliance.

Prashant Kanojia had faced adverse consequences including jail term for his tweets slamming the government several times. In 2020, he was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police over a tweet alleging that the post threatened the law and order situation.
