Sanjay Jaiswal has been nominated by the BJP to run for the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Paschim Champaran constituency in Bihar. Meanwhile, Congress has nominated Madan Mohan Tiwari from the Pashim Champaran. The election will take place in the Paschim Champaran parliamentary constituency on May 25, 2024 (phase 6).

A doctor by profession, Sanjay Jaiswal has served as the BJP party president from 2019 to 2023. He served as a member of the consultative committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee on Health and Family Welfare, the committee on Estimates, and a member of the governing body JIPMER, Pondicherry.

Sanjay Jaiswal has been in the power since 2009 from the BJP. During his current tenure, Jaiswal registered 78% attendance, participated in 94 debates and asked a total of 195 questions on health issues, transport, earth science, education, railways and agriculture.

He courted a controversy while giving an interview to the NDTV. In the interview, Jaiswal attacked Rahul Gandhi and questioned his patriotism. He said, “A person born to a foreigner mother can never be a patriot”. Sanjay Jaiswal has also criticised the policies of opposition parties in the state when the ruling party made a provision of time relief to Muslim employers during the month of Ramadan. Jaiswal, then came in news when the Bihar BJP president lodged an FIR against Sahitya Akademi Award winner Daya Prasad Sinha”s remark on Emperor Ashoka. Sinha said in the interview that Ashoka”s policy of pacifism was tactic to gain respectability. Jaiswal accused Sinha of spreading hatred among communities.

Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of 6 assembly regions, namely, Nautan, Chanpatia, Bettiah, Raxaul, Sugauli and Narkatiya. All of the assembly seats were secured by BJP and RJD.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, Sanjay Jaiswal secured 603,799 (59.60%) votes, while the runner up candidate from RLSP received only 30.58% votes.

Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar and it comes under the general category. It includes part of Paschim Champaran district and part of purvi Champaran district. Total literacy rate for the constituency is 44.68%. The constituency has a significant population of Muslim and SC voters. The Muslim, SC and ST candidates constitutes 20.7%, 13.42% and 3.31% of the total population respectively.

The Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 will be announced on June 4, 2024.
