BJP candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely wins by securing 56,858 votes. Meanwhile, AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary came in second with 44,110 votes. Congress’s Kamal Arora fall far behind with 3,453 votes.
Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency is one of the 70 constituencies in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The assembly seat has been part of the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The key candidates in the fray are Naveen Chaudhary from Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Singh Lovely from BJP and Kamal Arora from the Indian National Congress (INC).
In the previous assembly election in Delhi, BJP’s Anil Kumar Bajpai has won by a margin of 6,079 votes, while AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary was the runner up with 42,745 votes. Meanwhile, in the 2020 assembly election, the state had recorded 61.46 per cent of voters turn out for the 70 assembly constituencies. In 2015, Anil Kumar Bajpai won the Gandhi Nagar seat on the AAP ticket with a margin of 7,482 votes. He had defeated BJP candidate Jitender, who got 43, 464 votes (38.60%). Congress candidate Surender Prakash Sharma came in third with 16,228 votes (14.41%).
The Congress party had won three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013. While, the saffron party was only able to win once. After ending the Congress rule in 2013, the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP formed the government in the national capital and further it had completed its second consecutive term (2015 to 2025). As per the data from the election commission, there were 1,82,831 electors in the Gandhi Nagar constituency during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.
