Squashing all reports of resigning from the Union ministry, actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and called the news “grossly incorrect.” His clarification comes amidst media reports of the actor hoping to be removed from ministerial duties to focus on his acting career.

The BJP MP from Thrissur said, “A few media platforms are spreading the incorrect news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi Government. This is grossly incorrect. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, we are committed to the development and prosperity of Kerala.”

Moments after being sworn in as the Minister of State, Gopi revealed that he was hoping for the senior leadership of the BJP to relieve him from the post and work as an MP representing Thrissur. He revealed that he wished to complete shooting for the films he had signed “at any cost.”

Speculations were rife that the change of heart was attributed to Gopi being relegated to a minister of the state.

The BJP MP said that he expects to be relieved from the Union ministry as he has to finish his signed films. “Let the central leadership decide. As the MP, I will perform to the best of my abilities in Thrissur. I had maintained that I do not want the cabinet position,” he told Manorama News.

Reacting to the news, the Congress unit of Kerala slammed the saffron party and PM Modi for making a “mockery” out of the voters. “Why don’t you tell your MP to first decide what he wants to do in life and, most importantly, stop this show in front of the media after taking oath in the name of God and the constitution,” Kerala Congress wrote while sharing a clip of the actor expressing his new decision.

Suresh Gopi is the first and only BJP MP from Kerala. In a historic win, Gopi breached the unbreakable fort for the saffron party in Kerala, defeating political stalwarts K. Muraleedharan, son of veteran leader K. Karunakaran, and V. S. Sunil Kumar, a popular politician in Thrissur.

On Sunday, he was inducted into the union council of ministers in the new NDA 3.0 government under the leadership of PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. Reportedly, Gopi had informed the party’s leadership about his intentions.

In terms of his acting career, Gopi recently shared the first look of his upcoming film titled JSK, directed by Pravin Narayanan, which also features Anupama Parameswaran, Divya Pillai, Baiju Santhosh, Shruti Ramachandran, and Ramesh Kottayam, among others.
