Thiruvambadi Calls Off Thrissur Pooram Vedikettu (Fireworks) After Deadly Blast Kills At Least 13
Thrissur, Kerala: Thiruvambadi, one of the major participating temples in the renewed Thrissur Pooram, has decide not to have Vedikettu (Fireworks) during the famous Thrissur Pooram scheduled for April 26. The decision follows the explosion in one of the fireworks unit on Tuesday, April 21, killing over 13 people and injuring many others.
The Thrissur Pooram fireworks is one of the premier attraction of the festival, which is commonly referred as mother of all Poorams in Kerala. The Pooram’s firework is known for its immense intensity and competitive, massive explosive pattern.

On Tuesday, a major blast at a firework manufacturing unit at Thrissur Pooram explosive facility located at Mundathikode killed over 13 people. The manufacturing unit was engaged in preparing fireworks for the Thiruvambadi faction of the Thrissur Pooram.
A large quantity of explosives was reportedly stored at the site, which caught fire and triggered the blast during ongoing preparation work for the famous annual Hindu temple festival Thrissur Pooram.
