
Thrissur School Teacher Booked For Urging Muslim Students To Skip Onam
Thrissur, Kerala: A school teacher from Sirajul Uloom English High School in Kadavallur, Thrissur, has been booked for allegedly urging students from the Muslim community to “stay away” from Onam celebrations in school, Indian Express reports.
Based on the FIR, a woman teacher named Khadeeja allegedly sent a voice message on WhatsApp telling Muslim students to avoid Onam celebrations.

She claimed that participating in the festivities would be considered “shirk”. In Islam, shirk means idolatry or polytheism.
In the audio message, according to Indian Express, the teacher could be heard saying that “Onam is a ritual of the Hindu community. Neither we nor our children should be part of it in any manner . . . .”
The teacher also urged that they should not associate with the rituals of other communities and that they had to be careful not to compromise their own beliefs in doing so.

Based on a complaint filed by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Kunnamkulam police registered FIR against the teacher on August 26 under Section 192 (giving provocation with the intent to cause riot) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following the row, the management has suspended two teachers for circulating audio messages about the issue. The school stated that the comments were the teachers’ personal views, not the school’s official stand.
