INDIA Bloc Seat Sharing In Jharkhand: Congress-JMM To Contest 70 Seats, RJD 'Unhappy'

INDIA bloc members Congress and the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) reached a deal on Saturday that both would contest 70 of the 81 assembly seats as elections for the Jharkhand assembly are scheduled for next month.

As per the report, the rest of the 11 seats will be shared between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and left parties. The decision, however, has left some alliance partners in dismay, with RJD expressing its resentment over the announcement. RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said the way JMM and the Congress unilaterally decided on the alliance was not right, pointing out that though the party chief Tejashwi Yadav was present in Ranchi, and that he was not informed of the declaration regarding the seat sharing among the alliance partners. He also said that the party was capable of contesting more than a dozen seats alone, hinting at possibility for walking out of the alliance.

The announcement was made following a meeting between the senior JMM and the Congress leaders. The decision was declared by Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the presence of Jharkhand Congress in-charge Gulam Ahmad Mir, and senior state minister Rameshwar Oraon.

The 11 seats which was reserved for the RJD and left parties were areas in which the parties have a good presence, pushing a robust front against the BJP, which is vying to oust the ruling JJP government.
