Lois Marandi of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has emerged victorious clinging to 76,424 votes and defeating Suresh Murmu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 5,738 votes. Murmu garnered 70,686 votes.
Louis Marandi made headlines recently by resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on October 21, 2024, to join the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Marandi has had a distinguished career in politics, serving as a cabinet minister in the Government of Jharkhand. Her portfolio included Welfare, Minority Welfare, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development. She has also been a member of the Jharkhand Women’s Commission.

In addition to her political roles, Marandi has also worked as a lecturer at various colleges in Jharkhand, teaching Santali. She has been a key figure in the Jharkhand BJP, serving as the president of the women’s wing. In 2012, Marandi played a crucial role as the National Secretary of the BJP, working under Rajnath Singh.
Marandi has contested several elections throughout her career. In the 2009 assembly election, she contested the Dumka assembly seat as a BJP candidate but lost to Hemant Soren by about 3,000 votes.
However, in the 2014 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election, Marandi defeated Hemant Soren by 5,262 votes, solidifying her position as a powerful leader in Jharkhand politics.
