Jharkhand Assembly Election Results Today.

The counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly elections is set to take place today November 23, 2024. The main battle is between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for 81 seats altogether.

The voting took place in two phases on November 13 and November 20 concluded with  68.01% voter turnout overall.

The JMM, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren is contesting 41 seats. Key candidates include Hemant Soren himself who is seeking re-election from Barhait, his wife Kalpana Soren from Gandey and his brother Basant Soren from Dumka.

Hemant Soren won the Barhait seat in 2019 with 73,725 votes, defeating BJP’s Simon Marandi by a margin of 25,740 votes. This time around, the BJP has fielded Gamaliyan Hembrom against Soren.

On the other hand, the BJP is contesting 68 seats. Key leaders include former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, who is running from Dhanwar and former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who joined the BJP earlier this year and is contesting from Seraikela constituency.

Key Constituencies:

  • Barhait: JMM candidate and Chief Minister Hemant Soren is the key contestant in this seat, seeking re-election and the BJP has fielded Gamaliyan Hembrom.
  • Gandey: The Gandey constituency in Jharkhand has been a focal point of interest, especially with Kalpana Soren, wife of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, contesting on a JMM ticket against BJP’s Muniya Devi.
  • Dumka: JMM candidate Basant Soren, brother of Hemant Soren is contesting this seat against BJP’s Sunil Soren.
  • Seraikela: Former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who joined the BJP earlier this year is contesting against Ganesh Mahli from JMM for this seat and it is reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST).
  • Dhanwar: Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi is contesting this seat against Raj Kumar Yadav who represents the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation (CPI(ML)L).
  • Jamtara: The Jamtara constituency is gearing up for a fierce electoral battle between Congress MLA Irfan Ansari and BJP’s Sita Soren. Historically, Jamtara has been a Congress stronghold, with the party winning 12 out of 18 elections since 1952.
  • Giridih: JMM candidate Sudivya Kumar is contesting once again after 2019’s victory and this time against BJP’s Nirbhay Kumar Shahbadi.
  • Dhanbad: A key battle is expected between Indian National Congress’s Ajay Kumar Dubey and BJP’s Raj Sinha.
  • Pakur: Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Aquil Akhtar, the richest candidate in Jharkhand is contesting this seat. He won elections on a JMM ticket last time. This time, he is up against Congress candidate Nishat Alam and NDA-supported AJSU Party candidate Azhar Islam.
