Bidyut Baran Mahato is fielded as the BJP candidate from Jamshedpur constituency. Jamshedpur, known as Tatanagar is one of the prominent Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand. Bidyut was included in the first candidate list consisting of 195 named from BJP.
Bidyut belongs to the Kudmi Mahato tribal community. BJP is aiming to secure the Jamshedpur seat for the fourth consecutive time in the upcoming 2024 election with incumbent MP Bidyut Baran gearing up for a hat-trick.
Jamshedpur is known for its decisive Kudmi, tribal, Odia, Bengali and Bihari voters. In the 2014 general election, Bidyut Baran won the seat by securing 4,64,153 votes against JVM(P) candidate Dr Ajay Kumar. Later in the 2019 election, Bidyut retained the seat by securing 6,79,632 votes against Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Born in 1963, Bidyut hails from Krishnapur village of Jharkhand. As for his educational qualification, Bidyut has completed his higher secondary education.
The Jamshedpur seat has witnessed several close contests and political experiments. Since 2009, the BJP has shown its stronghold in Jamshedpur.
The saffron party was able to maintain dominance in Jharkhand over the past three consecutive general elections. The tribal-dominated state has been grappled with political uncertainty since its inception on November 15, 2000. Jharkhand consists of a total of 14 Lok Sabha constituencies. And the BJP has announced candidates for 11 of the 14 seats. While INDIA bloc has not yet announced its candidates as talks among allies continue. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP emerged victorious in 11 seats while its ally AJSU secured one seat.
