Sunil Soren, after being declared as the BJP candidate from the Dumka constituency of Jharkhand, has said that his party would point out the failures of the former chief minister Hemant Soren in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Born in 1980, Soren’s political journey began in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly where he served as a member from the Jama constituency in 2005. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Soren contested the election from the Dumka constituency but was defeated by Shibu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) who has won the seat four times in a row. Shibu Soren has polled 3,35,815 votes with a vote share of 37.19%, while Sunil Soren got 2,96,785 votes.

However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Sunil Soren emerged victorious for the first time from the Dumka with a margin of 47,590 votes. He polled 4,84,923 votes with a vote share of 47.26% defeating the former chief minister Shibu Soren who has secured 4,37,333 votes.

The saffron party has once again decided to field Sunil Soren as the candidate in the Dumka constituency. The INDIA bloc has not yet decided on the candidate to be fielded in the Dumka seat. The constituency has 15.67 lakh voters including 7.79 lakh female voters.

The saffron party was able to maintain dominance in Jharkhand over the past three consecutive general elections. The tribal-dominated state has been grappled with political uncertainty since its inception on November 15, 2000. Jharkhand consists of a total of 14 Lok Sabha constituencies. And the BJP has announced candidates for 11 of the 14 seats. While INDIA bloc has not yet announced its candidates as talks among allies continue. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP emerged victorious in 11 seats while its ally AJSU secured one seat.
