Kharge Refutes Modi’s Charge About Mentioning His Father

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday denied that he had ever mentioned the Prime Minister’s father in his speech anywhere. He alleged that this was so characteristic of Mr Modi to distort things.

Addressing a large public rally on Rajasthan”s Hanumangarh, Mr Kharge made clear that he had never mentioned Mr Modi’s father in any of his speeches. He reiterated that Mr Modi was a big liar who is expert in distorting things. Mr Kharge referred Mr Modi’s false allegation against him as his yet another “jumla”.

The Congress president then said, Mr Modi despite being in power for about 23 years now, first as the Chief Minister and later as the Prime Minister, was still fond of crying victimhood to gain sympathy. He cautioned people to beware of such hypocrites and their hypocrisy since it was very dangerous. Referring to Mr Modi”s oft repeated claim that he is a poor man’s son, Mr Kharge retorted, “my father was a labourer”.

Criticising BJP’s divisive politics, Mr Kharge argued that on the one hand it claimed to be uniting the country, while on the other hand it was trying to divide people in the name of caste and religion.
He then pointed out how Mr Modi has been abusing Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and him. Congress was not bothered, he said. Continuing further, he said the Congress leaders believe in giving their lives for the country like former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, while the BJP believed in taking the lives of others. He the enquired, who killed Mahatma Gandhi and where are Nathuram Godse’s supporters now?

The Congress president restated the seven guarantees of his party for the people of Rajasthan. These include Rs 10,000 every year to woman head of every family, procurement of dung for Rs 2 per kg, free laptops/tabs for first year government college students, calamity relief insurance cover to the tune of Rs 15 lakhs, English Medium schools, gas cylinder for Rs 500 and legal guarantee to restore the old pension scheme for government employees.
