Lok Sabha Polls Phase 7: Key Candidates And Constituencies To Look Out For

Varanasi
(Uttar Pradesh): Aiming for the third win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting against Congress’s Ajay Rai. Though BJP is eyeing a record margin of victory in the constituency, how much the Varanasi’s population would favor him after the recent Muslim hate speech remains a question. The growing contention against PM Modi among the youth of the constituency is also noticeable as they have decided to downgrade him as the city failed to generate ideal employment opportunities under Modi.

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): The actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut will contest from the seat on the BJP ticket and will face the royal scion of the erstwhile Rampur Bushahr princely state Vikramaditya Singh. Both parties have fielded two of the richest candidates to contest the seat.
However, the BJP finds itself in a dominant position with 12 out of seventeen assembly constituencies in their kitty. Kangana is known for her ‘Modi Bhakt’ and she strongly believes that India attained independence after 2014.

Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Union minister Anurag Thakur is seeking his fifth term as the member of parliament from Hamirpur constituency. And the electoral stakes are very high for both the Congress as well as BJP in the constituency. Congress has fielded former Una MLA Satpal Raizada against him.

Diamond Harbour (West Bengal): Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress candidate Abhishek Banerjee is contesting the polls in Diamond Harbour. He will face a three-way contest with CPI(M)’s Pratikur Rahaman and Abhijit Das of the BJP.

Amritsar (Punjab):  Amritsar will witness a four-cornered contest between Congress, AAP, Shriomani Akali Dal and BJP. The saffron party has had a checkered history with the seat. Congress has fielded the incumbent MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla while AAP has fielded Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. Meanwhile, BJP has chosen former US ambassador Taranjith Singh Sandhu as their candidate.

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh): Actor and politician Ravi Kishan is the BJP candidate for the seat. He fought the polls against the Samajwadi party’s candidate Kajal Nishad. In 2019, Kishan defeated the SP candidate with over 60 percent of the entire vote share.

Chandigarh (Union territory): The union territory is set for a direct battle between BJP and the INDIA bloc joint candidate fielded by Congress.
