Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has released its first list of 38 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled on November 20. Party chief Ajit Pawar will contest from Baramati while Chhagan Bhujbal from Yeola, Dilip Walse Patil from Ambegaon.
Ajit Pawar has been representing Baramati constituency since 1991. Notably, surprising many, the deputy chief minister in September said that Baramati should get a different MLA, adding that a product does not get value at the place it grows. “Baramati should get a different MLA. One can then compare my work from 1991 to 2024,” he was heard saying at a party meeting.

The elections for the 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra are scheduled on November 20 and the poll bugles have begun sounding louder in the state that underwent a drastic political transformation during the past five years. The Split in NCP into party founder Sharad Pawar’s NCP and his nephew Ajit Pawar’s faction. The Shiv Sena also split, forming into two groups – the Uddhav Thackeray-led group and Eknath Shinde-led faction.
While Ajit Pawar’s NCP is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and BJP, Sharad Pawar’s NCP is in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which comprises Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Congress.
The result of the assembly elections in Maharashtra will be declared along with Jharkhand result on November 23.
