Vanlalhmuak Is Determined To Lead BJP In Mizoram To "Great Improvements"

Vanlalhmuaka, president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mizoram, is confident in his party’s ability to at least five seats in Mizoram this year. In 2018 assembly election, he contested from Mizoram’s Serlui constituency. This year, he is contesting from Dampa constituency.

Vanlalhmuaka plays a key role in Mizoram’s 2023 assembly election. The constituency that he is competing from, Dampa, is the only constituency that gave BJP a chance in Mizoram. Though Mizo National Front is ruling the state, the party have its hands linked to BJP via the BJP led NDA alliance.

Vanlalhmuaka was appointed as Mizoram’s Bharatiya Janata Party’s president in 2020 by replacing J. V. Hluna. Before assigning as the president, he served as BJP’s general secretary. While talking to ANI, Vanlalhmuaka said, “this time BJP will be, if not form the government alone, then we will be part of the government”.

On Saturday, while talking to ANI, the BJP president of Mizoram said BJP may perform well in Mizoram despite exit polls showing no future for BJP in Mizoram. He remarked that the exit polls may be wrong as it is very difficult to practice exit polls in Mizoram. He said, “this time we are expecting up to five seats. We are expecting great improvement here in our state”.

BJP opened its account in Christian dominated Mizoram in 2018 assembly election by winning one seat. Though the ruling Mizo National Front, Zoram People’s Movement and Indian National Congress are the key players of 2023 assembly election in Mizoram, BJP too is confident about the party’s possibility of winning few more seats this year.

The result of assembly elections of all the five states were scheduled to declare on December 3rd. But Election Commission of India has declared Mizoram’s election to be on December 4. The change arranged on the ground of receiving requests from the state that Sunday, December 3 holds significance for the Christian-majority population of Mizoram. the result for all the four other states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana will be declared on December 3rd.
