Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to Mizoram. As Mizoram is going to the poll next week, Mr. Modi was scheduled to visit and address a rally to the poll campaign on October 30th. The state will go to polls on November 7th. Congress party said the cancellation was because PM Modi has not visited the neighbouring state of Manipur while it was burning in the fire of ethnic conflict.
The Bharathiya Janata Party President of Mizoram, Vanlalhmuaka said that as far as he know, the cancellation was due the “other engagements” of Mr. Modi. He also added that there is high possibility that the Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the state, but it is not confirmed when or which part of the state the Home Minister will visit.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress leader claims that the cancellation was due the silence PM Modi has adopted about the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. Taking to social media platform, X (formerly twitter), Mr. Ramesh wrote that the cancellation could be “because questions would be raised that he had not found time to visit the deeply troubled neighbouring state that has been on the deep edge for almost 180 days”. He asked with what face would Mr. Modi go to the rally in Mizoram.

Earlier Mr. Ramesh has raised five questions by the people of Manipur on why Mr. Modi did not visit the vulnerable state of Manipur yet. The question was raised on the 175th day since the conflict started.

Earlier, the Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga pronounced his reluctance to share stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state. He claimed that sharing stage with PM Modi will garner “minus point” for his party.
The Prime Minister was supposed to visit Mamit of Mizoram, which BJP’s greatest focus for the upcoming election. The Christian majority Mizoram stayed clear of the BJP in most part of the state.
