New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (December 29) accused the BJP of manipulating the voter lists ahead of Delhi Assembly polls. Terming it as a part of ‘Operation Lotus’, AAP leader alleged that the BJP has been tampering electoral rolls in his New Delhi assembly constituency since December 15.

Addressing a press conference, alongside Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Kejriwal stated that the BJP is trying to win elections through “unfair means” after they failed to present strong candidates or issues.

AAP leader said that BJP has already lost elections and the party does not have a chief ministerial face or even good candidates. Their only aim is to win election through manipulation, which he asserted would not let it happen.

Continuing further, Kejriwal said that the BJP had submitted 11,000 applications to delete voters in a single constituency. However, through Chief Election Commissioner’s intervention, this move was prevented. “We exposed this and thankfully, it was stopped,” Kejriwal said.

The former Delhi Chief Minister alleged that a large-scale operation began on December 15, wherein 5,000 voter deletion applications and 7,500 addition requests filed so far in his New Delhi constituency. This could alter 12 per cent of the constituency’s votes, he stated. Kejriwal said that as per the voter list published on October 29 after the summary revision, the total number of voters in the constituency, is 1,06,873.

“Operation Lotus has now reached my constituency. They are attempting to manipulate the electoral rolls to change the election outcome,” Kejriwal said. He then added that this kind of manipulation “undermines democracy,” and urged the Election Commission to continue its “strict monitoring to prevent such malpractice.”

However, the BJP is yet to respond to the AAP’s allegations.
