From midway through the counting, it became increasingly clear that the advantage had shifted decisively in favour of the Congress candidate, with the margin steadily widening as final results came in.
Peravoor, a constituency known for its competitive electoral history and politically active electorate, once again witnessed a high-stakes battle between the United Democratic Front and the Left Democratic Front. The 2026 verdict, however, leaned clearly in favour of the Congress, reflecting strong local support for Adv. Sunny Joseph.
Party workers closely followed each round of counting, with the lead changing early on before stabilising in favour of the Congress candidate. By the final stages, the outcome was no longer in doubt, and celebrations began among Congress supporters soon after the official confirmation.
Political observers note that the margin of 14,453 votes indicates a strong mandate and highlights the effectiveness of local-level campaigning and voter outreach by the winning candidate. At the same time, the result also underscores the unpredictable nature of constituency-level contests, especially when high-profile candidates are involved. With this victory, Adv. Sunny Joseph strengthens the Indian National Congress position in Peravoor, while K K Shailaja Teacher’s defeat marks one of the notable outcomes of the election day, given her stature in Kerala politics.
