The Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Abhimanyu won the Sangaria constituency, defeating the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Gurdeep Singh and secured a vote share of 98,341 in the assembly election held on November 25. Gurdeep Singh came second with 56,331 votes while independent candidate Gulab Sinwar got 40,266 votes.
Sangaria in Hanumangarh district is a crucial constituency as it is one of the eight assembly segments that constitute the Ganganagar Parliament Seat.
According to the 2011 Census, Sangaria boasts a predominantly rural demographic, with approximately 88.71% of its voters residing in rural areas, while the urban constituency constitutes 11.29% of the total population.
Bharatiya Janata Party”s (BJP) Gurdeep Singh had come out victorious in the 2018 polls with 49.37% (99064) votes, defeating Congress”s Shabnam Godara, who secured 46.11% (92,526) votes. The two top contenders had a vote margin of 3.29% between them.
Gurdeep Singh started his political career in Sangaria, initially securing the third spot as an independent candidate in 2008 and in 2013 before clinching victory under the BJP banner in 2018. Congress, historically favoured in Sangaria, last clinched the seat in 2008 with Param Navadeep. However, the constituency had a recurring fight between the BJP and the INC
However, going by the latest reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
