The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jaydeep Bihani won Ganganagar with 81,001 Votes, while both the independent candidate Karuna Ashok Chandak and Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Ankur Maglani lagged in the assembly election held on November 25. Karuna Ashok Chandak got 51,222 votes while Ankur Maglani garnered 39,006.
The BJP and the INC had been unsuccessful in winning the constituency in the last two elections. As an urban seat, the Ganganagar constituency has 74.01% urban voters and 26% rural voters as per the 2011 Census.
In the 2018 assembly elections, the winner was independent candidate Raj Kumar Gaur, securing 26.52% of the total votes (44,998 votes), defeating INC”s Ashok Chandak (21.11%) and BJP”s Vinita Ahuja (17.50%).
In the 2013 assembly elections, Kamini Jindal of the National Unionist Zamindara Party (NUZP) came out victorious with a substantial margin of 24.6%, garnering 51.67% of the total votes. As a six-time MLA from the constituency, Kedarnath has been the most popular candidate from the constituency. He has contested elections independently, in alignment with the Janata Party and the Socialist Party. As the BJP and Congress had been unable to secure victory in the past two assembly elections for this seat, both were trying hard to get into the place in this election and the BJP saw the result.
However, going by the latest reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
