Results Unexpected, Will Analyse: Rahul Gandhi On Maharashtra Rout

After the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a crushing defeat in Maharashtra, with the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti securing over 225 seats in the 288-member Assembly, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reacted to the outcome. He stated that the results were unexpected and assured that the party would conduct a detailed analysis.

Reacting to Jharkand’s election, where INDIA bloc had won by a comfortable margin, he said, “Heartfelt thanks to the people of Jharkhand for giving a huge mandate to India. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Chief Minister Hemant Soren ji, all the workers of Congress and JMM for this victory. This victory of the alliance in the state is a victory of the protection of water, forest and land along with the Constitution.”

“The results of Maharashtra are unexpected and we will analyse them in detail. Thanks to all the voter brothers and sisters of the state for their support and to all the workers for their hard work,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

The low seats of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra extinguished hoped of getting Rajya Sabha seats from the state in future. Despite being a dominant party of the opposition MVA in Maharashtra, the Congress failed to pull the weight of the opposition bloc.

The Congress which contested the highest number of assembly seats among MVA allies, 101 out of 288, was winning or leading in only 16 seats with one of the lowest strike rates of 16 per cent. In the Lok Sabha polls held six months ago, the Congress had won 13 of Maharashtra’s 42 Lok Sabha seats on which rested its hopes of a big win and the Chief minister post.
