Telangana Election Results: Vedma Bhojju Wins Khanapur (ST) Assembly

The Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Vedma Bhojju won Khanapur constituency in the 2023 Telangana state legislative assembly elections. He secured a substantial majority of 4,702 votes against BRS candidate Johnson Naik Bhukya, who got 54,168 votes. BJP’s Ramesh Rathod secured 52,398 votes.

Khanapur is part of Nirmal district of the Indian state of Telangana.

In the 2014 election, Ajmeera Rekha, representing the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), secured victory with a total of 67,442 votes. She triumphed over Ramesh Rithod from the Telugu Desam Party, who later shifted to the Indian National Congress before merging with the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the same election, Ajmeera Hari Naik, a candidate of the Indian National Congress, garnered 26,087 votes.

In the 2018 General Elections to the Constituent Assembly, Ajmeera Rekha repeated her victory, representing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharath Rashtra Samiti), with a total of 67,138 votes. Concurrently, Ashok Satla, fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), garnered 23,779 votes in the same election.

Examining the overall election outcome in Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured only a handful of seats, with Adilabad being one of the few constituencies won. The 2023 election results indicate a notable shift in favor of the Indian National Congress (INC), which emerged victorious in approximately 65 seats. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now named as Bharthiya Rashtra Samithi (BHRS) a prominent political force in the state, experienced a setback in the 2023 elections.
