When reporters asked about the recent unveiling of “six guarantees” by the Congress for poll-bound Telengana, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRC) leader and MLC K. Kavitha said that the people of Telengana are aware that the Congress party fails to render promises. “It”s another election gimmick,” she responded to the recent announcements made by Congress.
” . . . the people of Telangana know and understand for a fact that the Congress party never lives up to their promises. We have always seen them going back on their promises; they have known to be the renegers of this country in political parties,” Ms. Kavitha added.
She then reasoned her statement by citing “the failure of the Congress to deliver the promised Telangana, a new state”. “They promised to deliver the state in 2004; for that matter, they came to K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR)”s house and made an alliance,” she said.
“And before, in 1969, they have cheated us,” said Ms. Kavitha. “First of all, we didn”t even want to merge with Andhra, and they merged us with Andhra forcefully.”
She said that the Congress party has played with the future of Telengana and the emotions of the people, and according to her the Telangana people “have suffered for generations.”
She then added that if the Congress wanted to fulfil the promise, they could have delivered Telangana in 2004 itself, and through that, they could have avoided the loss of many young people’s lives and the negativity that then existed between Andhra and Telengana.
At the onset of the Telengana Assembly Elections later this year, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi announced six schemes: Mahalakshmi, Rythu Bharosa, Gruha Jyothi, Indiramma Indlu, Yuva Vikasam, and Cheyutha, on Sunday. Addressing a public gathering, Ms. Gandhi said, “We are announcing six guarantees and we are committed to fulfil each one of them”.
Ms. Kavitha is the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister KCR and a former Lok Sabha MP.
