Congress fielded two-time BJP MP Ajay Kumar Nishad from Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha constituency after he switched to the grand old party on April 2. The former BJP leader left the saffron party after it chose to replace the sitting MP with Raj Bhushan Chaudhary.

Following the BJP”s nomination, Ajay Nishad resigned from the BJP primary membership and posts he was holding in the party.  While joining the Congress party, the BJP turncoat said that he was shocked by the betrayal from the saffron party.  

Born on October 2, 1966, in Hajipur, Bihar, Ajay Nishad graduated in Commerce from Bihar University. He is the son of former minister late Captain Jai Narin Prasad Nishad. Initially a member of the RJD, Ajay joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Before his entry into the BJP, his had unsuccessfully contested two assembly elections from the Kurhani and Sahebganj constituencies respectively

During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ajay Nishad emerged victorious from Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha seat on the BJP ticket, while the Congress”s Akhilesh Prasad Singh trailed behind. He won the seat with a 2,22,422 votes majority. The MP then saw his popularity soaring and retained the seat by doubling the majority in the 2019 general elections. 

The 56-year-old commerce graduate established himself during his two-year stint as an MP from Muzaffarpur. In his second term as a BJP MP, Ajay Nishad recorded 93 percent attendance, participating in 34 debates. He has raised a total of 184 questions across different sessions in the parliament. As per his last affidavit filed before the election commission, the former BJP leader has over 14 crore assets and has no active criminal cases against him.
