Samajwadi Party has released second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh. The list includes 11 candidates. The party has given ticket to Usha Verma from Hardoi Lok Sabha constituency once again.
Verma said she will maintain the trust expressed in her by the national president of the party, Akilesh Yadav. She said she will do her best and commented that she got the ticket based on public feedback.
Talking to media, Verma said the public, which is fed up with the BJP is in favour of Samajwadi Party and want her to raise voice for their rights and interest.
Usha Verma comes from a political family, which has been active in Uttar Pradesh’s politics for decades. Her father-in-law, Parmai Lal has been Member of Parliament twice and MLA six times. She herself has a rich political resume as previously held positions as MP, MLA, and Minister of State.
She was elected as the Lok Sabha member from Hardoi in 1998, 2004, and in 2009. Verma was elected to Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2002. She became Minister of State Government under Mulayam Singh Yadav ministry in 2003.
Usha Verma holds master’s degree in English. She got married to Lal Bihari in 1988. Verma was also interested in social work. She was member of a joint committee of empowerment of women in 1999, member of committee on welfare of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in 2004, and member of Committee of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2004 and 2009. Apart from her political activities, she is an agriculturist, architect, social worker and business woman.
