“We, The People Echo In Unison…”: Election Commission Says As 18th Lok Sabha Election Ends

India has made history today as the 18th Lok Sabha elections concluded with the months long process was conducted for 96.88 crore registered voters. The General Election 2024, which began on April 19 and spanned over seven phases, saw Indian voters exercising their most cherished democratic right. The participation of voters from all walks of life, regardless of caste, creed, religion, socio-economic, or educational background, has once again proven the strength of Indian democracy, according to the Election Commission of India. Along with the Lok Sabha (Indian Parliament’s lower house) elections for 543 constituencies, polls were also held for the Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, expressed deep gratitude towards the voters. Despite facing numerous challenges, voters made it to the polling stations, demonstrating their commitment to the democratic process. The Commission thanked all voters for their enthusiastic participation, which reaffirmed the trust placed by the founders of the Indian constitution in the power of suffrage.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the entire election machinery, including security forces, for ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting process. Their dedication, despite tough weather conditions and logistical challenges, played a crucial role in maintaining order and creating a festive atmosphere at polling stations across the country.

In addition, the ECI expressed appreciation for all political parties and candidates, recognizing their pivotal role in the elections. The Commission also highlighted the significant contribution of the print, electronic, and digital media in supporting free and fair elections, considering them as crucial allies.

Special mention was made of the inspiring votes cast by centenarians, elderly, persons with disabilities, and transgender individuals. Their participation serves as a powerful example for the younger generation, encouraging them to carry forward the torch of democracy.

The collective efforts of voters, political parties, candidates, election personnel, and security forces have once again strengthened Indian democracy. “We, the people, have kept the wheels of democracy spinning,” the Election Commission noted, emphasizing the collective effort that makes India’s democratic process a global example.
