Will Vijay Become Tamil Nadu CM Today? Government Formation Crisis Deepens
The political situation in Tamil Nadu remained tense on Saturday as actor-turned-politician Vijay faced fresh setbacks in his attempt to form the next state government.
Vijay, who leads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), met Governor RV Arlekar for the third time in as many days at Raj Bhavan, trying to stake a claim to form the government after the recent assembly elections.
However, according to sources in the Governor’s office, Vijay has not yet been invited to take the oath as Chief Minister because he has not yet been able to demonstrate the support of 118 MLAs, the required majority in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Congress Has Only 5 Seats, So How Can Vijay Form Government? Tamil Nadu Numbers Explained
Despite emerging as the single largest party in the election, TVK has struggled to secure a stable majority. Two smaller parties, IUML and AMMK, have reportedly declined to extend support, weakening Vijay’s claim further.
The Governor’s office has maintained that formal proof of majority support is required before inviting any leader to form the government, adding to the ongoing uncertainty.
Meanwhile, intense political negotiations continue in Chennai. Reports suggest that major parties, including DMK and AIADMK, are exploring possible alliances with other regional players, including VCK, as the power struggle intensifies.
The situation has now shifted focus to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, which holds a few crucial seats that could influence the outcome. Their support is seen as potentially decisive in breaking the deadlock.
DMK-AIADMK Alliance Buzz Grows To Stop Vijay’s TVK From Power In Tamil Nadu
Several political leaders, including PMK founder Ramadoss, have urged the Governor to invite Vijay to form the government, citing the mandate of the people and TVK’s position as the single largest party.
However, opposition leaders have argued that Vijay should first demonstrate clear majority support in the House before staking a claim to power.
As of now, uncertainty continues over whether Vijay will be invited to form the government or whether another political combination will emerge in Tamil Nadu.
