DMK-AIADMK Alliance to Stop Vijay? Tamil Nadu Politics Takes Dramatic Turn
Political drama in Tamil Nadu intensified on Thursday as speculation grew over a possible post-poll understanding between long-time rivals Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led alliance to prevent Vijay and his party TVK from forming the next government.
According to the reports, informal discussions may have started between leaders from both camps after the election results delivered a fractured mandate.
DMK has reportedly secured around 68 seats, while the AIADMK-led bloc is believed to have won nearly 58 seats. Together, the numbers could cross the majority mark of 118 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
‘Confident Of Proving Numbers’: TVK’s Vijay To Meet Governor Shortly To Discuss Govt Formation
The sudden buzz comes at a time when Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is trying to gather support from smaller parties and independents after falling short of a clear majority.
Congress has already announced support for Vijay, saying it wants a “secular government” in the state and does not want BJP-backed forces to gain influence in Tamil Nadu.
However, the possible coming together of DMK and AIADMK has added a fresh twist to the fast-changing political situation.
If such an alliance takes shape, it would be one of the most unexpected developments in Tamil Nadu politics, as DMK and AIADMK have remained bitter rivals for decades.

Political observers say the move could be aimed at stopping the rapid rise of TVK and protecting the traditional Dravidian political space.
India has witnessed several surprising political alliances in the past.
From the BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir to the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP coalition in Maharashtra and the JD(U)-RJD partnership in Bihar, rival parties have often joined hands when power equations demanded it.
Despite growing speculation, there has been no official confirmation from either DMK or AIADMK regarding any alliance talks. Senior leaders from both parties have so far remained silent on the issue.
