"A New Era Of Social Justice...": Here’s What CM Vijay Did Moments After Taking Oath In Tamil Nadu

Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The swearing-in ceremony came after days of intense political suspense over government formation following the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election results.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay in the presence of top political leaders, party workers, celebrities, and thousands of supporters.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BJP leaders, and several alliance representatives attended the event.

Vijay arrived at the ceremony wearing a black suit and was greeted with a thunderous welcome from supporters gathered inside and outside the stadium.

Large LED screens were installed across Chennai, including in Mylapore and T Nagar, where fans celebrated the moment with drumbeats, fireworks, dancing, and the distribution of sweets.

Soon after taking the oath, Vijay shared a selfie moment with Rahul Gandhi and also recorded a 360-degree video of the cheering crowd, creating viral moments across social media.

Supporters emotionally hailed the occasion as a “historic political victory” that ended the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu politics.

In his first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay said a “new era of social justice” had begun in Tamil Nadu. He promised transparent governance, strict action against drugs, women’s safety, and clean administration.

He also announced that his government may release a white paper on Tamil Nadu’s financial condition, claiming the state is facing a debt burden of over ₹10 lakh crore.

Within hours of assuming office, Vijay signed his first official documents. The decisions included approving 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers and setting up a special force focused on women’s safety.
