Tamil Nadu Govt Formation: ‘Ball In Vijay’s Court’, Says AIADMK, Congress Backs TVK
The political situation in Tamil Nadu remains fluid as government formation talks intensify, with multiple parties signaling support for Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
AIADMK has indicated that the next move lies with Vijay.
Party spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said, “The ball is in Vijay’s court,” adding that the TVK leader must decide whether to secure a stable five-year government or seek broader alliances. He also noted that the Governor has requested clarity on the number of MLAs backing TVK.
Meanwhile, the Congress has extended its support to TVK, strengthening Vijay’s chances of forming the next government. The party emphasised that the mandate in Tamil Nadu favours a secular administration and made it clear it does not want the BJP or its allies to come to power in the state.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore acknowledged the setback for the previous alliance with DMK, stating that the electorate rejected the ruling government. Despite the loss, he expressed optimism, saying, “Even in defeat, there is no failure.”
The Congress’s Political Affairs Committee has reportedly decided unanimously to support Vijay, pushing TVK’s tally close to the majority mark, though a few more MLAs are still needed. Senior Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu are expected to address the media in Chennai later today, fueling speculation about a formal alliance announcement.
In parallel developments, TVK MLAs have been moved to a luxury resort in Mamallapuram as Vijay holds discussions to consolidate support. Security has also been tightened outside his residence amid the fast-moving political developments.
According to reports, Vijay may meet the Governor soon, who could present him with options to prove his majority. If numbers fall into place, Vijay is likely to take oath as Chief Minister on May 7 in Chennai.
