A complaint has been filed against actor-politician Vijay at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office for allegedly insulting Muslims during a recent Iftar event. Here is all you need to know about the controversy regarding Vijay and the Iftar event.
On March 7, TVK chief Vijay hosted an Iftar gathering to commemorate breaking fast at sundown. The event, which was organised at Royapettah’s YMCA ground, witnessed a total of 3,000 attendees, with invitations being extended to imams of 15 mosques.
However, the event landed in a controversy when the Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamaat lodged a complaint against the actor, expressing their strong disapproval over the participation of individuals unrelated to the religious observance.

The complainants have claimed that the event, meant to promote goodwill, caused hurt to the community. The complaint, filed by Sayed Kuos, the treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, further alleged that the event was poorly organised and hosted drunkards who had nothing to do with fasting or Iftar, insulting Muslims present there.
The Jamaat also criticised Vijay’s approach, accusing him of treating people disrespectfully and employing foreign security guards while being insensitive to local sentiments.
While addressing the media, Kuos stated that the event was coupled with many mishaps due to poor organisation. He clarified that the complaint was not filed for publicity but to uphold respect and dignity in future gatherings. Moreover, the actor’s decision to not express regret over the incident also raised concerns among some about his ‘insensitivity’ and ‘respect’ for religious sentiments.
