In a recent interview, Anju recalled the interesting story behind her casting in the film Kauravar. This Joshi directorial featured Mammootty in the lead role, supported by legendary actors like Thilakan and Murali.
The actress recalled Mammootty’s surprised reaction from the set of Neelagiri when the actor saw her after a long gap. She recalled the scenario and expressed the actor’s reaction: “When he saw me, he was shocked and asked, ‘Is this really you? Are you this grown-up now?”
The surprised reaction of Mammootty holds a backstory. This was a reference to their earlier film Azhagan, where Anju had initially been cast as the female lead. However, at the time, Mammootty felt she was too young for the role and was replaced by actress Madhubala.
