The 18th season of Bigg Boss, hosted by actor Salman Khan, premiered on Sunday (October 6), and the show has already made headlines for the wrong reasons. The entry of two controversial contestants—Rajat Dalal and Tajinder Bagga—is not sitting well with fans of the show.

Rajat Dalal

With over a million followers on Instagram, Rajat Dalal is a fitness trainer and content creator from Faridabad, Haryana. A look at his Instagram or YouTube channel (with over 231k followers) would tell you that Dalal is an avid fitness enthusiast and dreams of expanding his career in the field. But a quick Google search reveals the controversial side of him.

In March this year, Dalal got into an argument with fitness influencer Rajveer Singh Shisodia, which almost escalated into a physical confrontation but was resolved after the intervention of the Haryana police.

The 28-year-old made headlines in June this year when he was arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a teenager over a viral Instagram video where complainant Dhyan Lodha referred to Dalal as “Mighty Raju ruining my morning by showing his face every day in my gym.”

Dalal allegedly contacted Lodha over Instagram after the video went viral and obtained his address. Reportedly, he kidnapped Lodha from outside his home and took him to a cowshed, where he smeared cow dung on Lodha’s face. According to a News18 report, Dalal physically assaulted Lodha with sandals, forced him to sit-ups, and made him clean a flat’s bedroom. When Lodha fainted, Dalal reportedly urinated on his face to wake him up.

His statement was recorded after Lodha was admitted to the emergency ward of SMS Hospital in Chandkheda in Ahmedabad. Although Dalal was arrested, he was later released on bail.

In August this year, a video of Dalal allegedly physically assaulting a young boy went viral on Instagram. The video also includes an audio recording of Dalal allegedly threatening a person. A man later claims that the fitness enthusiast was threatening him and his family.

In September this year, he was booked for rash driving after allegedly hitting a biker. A video of the same surfaced online and quickly went viral. In the video, Dalal can be seen overspeeding at 140 km/h and changing lanes. After allegedly hitting the biker, he can be heard saying, “Gir gaya, koi baat nahi. Roz ka yahi kaam hai ma’am. (He fell down, no big deal. This is an everyday thing, ma’am).”

After many demanded his arrest, Dalal clarified, saying that the viral video was old and that he was done with controversies and fights.

Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga

The next controversial candidate is BJP leader Tajinder Bagga, who is known for his controversial tweets. Having joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP’s ideological parent, at the tender age of four, Bagga co-founded ‘Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena’ aimed to combat “anti-national forces.” The organisation gained notoriety for physically confronting individuals and accusing them of making ‘anti-India’ remarks.

In 2011, Bagga disrupted author Arundhati Roy’s book launch at Delhi’s India Habitat Centre and slapped renowned lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan in his Supreme Court chambers.

By 2015, he was among the #Super15, a group of social media influencers hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence. Two years later, he officially joined the BJP. Although he contested in the 2020 Delhi assembly polls from the Hari Nagar constituency, he was defeated.

The AAP leader Sunny Singh Ahluwali alleged that Bagga spread rumours, tried to create religious and communal enmity, and threatened party leader Arvind Kejriwal during a protest. In 2022, he was arrested by the Punjab Police on charges related to incitement and inflammatory social media posts. The Punjab and Haryana High Court later quashed the FIR filed against Bagga.

Following the premiere of Bigg Boss 18, several people expressed outrage over the show giving a platform to such individuals. “Is there a way to name and shame the casting team? It wouldn’t matter till somebody is held accountable! They would rather enjoy the trp from this outrage on sm” tweeted an X user.
