The forthcoming India tour of Canada based Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, popularly known as Shubh, got cancelled on Wednesday due to protest over his alleged support for Khalistani elements.

The online ticketing platform BookMyShow, cancelled the event, titled ‘Still Rollin India Tour’, and detailed about the refund of the ticket on the social media platform, X.

Though reason have not been cited, the ticketing platform has been receiving criticism on social media regarding the event.

In the three-month tour, the singer has been planned to perform in 12 cities including Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune. He was also scheduled to perform as a headliner for the Cruise Control 4.0 event, from September 23-25 organised aboard the Cordelia Cruise in Mumbai from September 23-25.

Reason for the Controversy

In March, he posted two stories in March, presenting a distorted map of India without Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and in another, he wrote “Pray for Punjab” has evoked criticism. Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) – youth wing of BJP – began protest in Mumbai demanding cancellation of his tour. They have also lodged a complaint to Mumbai police, and asked them to file a FIR against Shubh “for waging war against Government of India and posting anti-government posts,” Indian Express reports.

The controversy also posed Electronics Brand BoAt to withdraw the sponsorship, citing them as “first and foremost a truly Indian brand” in a statement published on X.

Besides, the Indian cricketers Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya has unfollowed him on social media.

The 26-year-old rapper well known for his Punjabi songs was shot to instant fame through the song, We Rollin. Released in 2021, it still continues with over 201 million views on YouTube. His other significant hits include Baller, Elevated, Offshore, Her, and No Love.
