The incident occurred at Skypan Apartments in Shastri Nagar, Andheri West, where the singer resides. On the night of January 6, around 9:15 pm, a fire broke out in the B wing of the building while the singer stayed on the 11th floor of the A wing.
Making things complicated, the fire alarm of the building went off, and the residents had to remain downstairs for four to five hours. The fire, which began around 9 pm, continued until midnight.

Moreover, 75-year-old Rahul Mishra, a resident of the apartment, also lost his life, and another person, Raunak Mishra (38), was hospitalised after suffering from suffocation due to the fire in a Mumbai building.
As per the reports, the fire was confined to the electric wiring, electric installations, and household articles in the flat. Officials suspect that a short circuit could have triggered the fire. But the exact reason for the fire is yet to be found.
Reports also reveal that five people were staying in the duplex flat in which the fire broke out. Three persons, including house servants, escaped unhurt. It was also found that the fire-fighting system of the building was nonfunctional, which made the rescue operation even a bit tough.
